Would i ask a painter and decorator for this? it is just due to lack of ventilation and has cleaned off with bleach but i was unsure if i would contact a decorator to treat the ceiling and paint it nicely again? Thank you

When you start treating a ceiling for mold there are some steps to take in order to make sure the mold does not come back! 1.Check if you have a leak in the roof or a small leak in a pipe running thru the ceiling and fix the problem. 2.Ensure proper ventilation of the room because in most kitchens and bathrooms ceilings mold will develop do to lack of ventilation. 3.Allow more light in the room.Mold develops in dark rooms ,if you can't allow more natural light add additional lighting which will add heat and stop molt to develop. 4.Improve insulation .poor insulation can cause condensation inside the wall which will create mold problems. -Insulation provides a barrier between the cold air outside and warm air inside, reducing the conditions causing mold growth. -Insulation should be improved in walls and around heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems. 5.Check if you have a mold colony on the other side of the ceiling and remove it if not removed the mold will grow back. 6.Use a dehumidifier which will remove the humidity from the air and reduce the ability for mold to grow. 7.Keep shower door open and fan on for 15 min after shower to allow water vapor to escape. 8.Removing the paint with a scraper if the paint is flaking 9.Use mold removing solution on the affected area 10.Scrub the mold using the rough side of a scouring sponge. 11.Allow the ceiling to dry. 12.Sand down the ceiling. 13.Paint the ceiling with a waterproof paint. A waterproof paint will prevent mold from growing back, especially if condensation was the cause of the mold.

Hi. The causes of black mould growth are many, damp, water ingress, high relative humidity. An answer here cant be given, it would need investigating. If you look in the right section of this site there are specialists offering their services to do this. To answer the question on re-decoration, i use zinsser b.i.n to cover stained areas that have had mould growth. 2 coats and it seals the stain and also the shellac it contains prevents spores from growing. Then paint with your emulsion.
