Damp Proofing

Damp patches still appear even after chimney removal

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

We were advised by a damp ‘specialist’ that removing our chimney would solve the problem of damp patches containing salts appearing on our chimney breast wall. Since removing the chimney, more patches are appearing on chimney wall. Can anyone offer advice regarding this issue? I have heard that tanking the wall would solve it? Thanks in advance.

Hi, it would appear that you have a condensation issue, tanking the wall and adding vents for ventilation will put it to bed.

Are you sure its damp and not soot left behind from the chimney removal. If when plastered this is not treated and cleaned correctly it can lean to it bleeding/ghosting through. As above a tanking solution would be good to block this if the case either way and then it'd need re plastering.
