Do I need to pay up front 100% before they will deliver and fit?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

OK, so I have just placed an order for a concrete garage building to be installed at my house. They took a 20% deposit which was fine. However, now they are asking me to pay the balance 2 weeks before they deliver and erect the garage. Of course, I understand that they can't take any chances but, with all other stuff I have bought which is of significant price, balance of payment is usually on completion of the works. Please advise on how I can be sure they will not just take my money after I have paid the whole amount. Thanks

When hiring company's for any type of work you should always agree before the work starts how it will be paid for and importantly get it in writing. A lot of people will ask for a deposit before starting the work and then the rest payable upon completion. If you have not signed a contract with the builders or some sort of agreement then you run the risk of being left out of pocket if they decide not to complete the works for any reason or leave yourself backed into a corner and under pressure if they ask for more money before works are completed. If you feel like you are being ripped off I would recommend seeking legal advice before parting with large sums of money. In some cases jobs can come to points where extras are needed and will in turn cost more money which is why it is always best to have agreements in writing before starting any major works done. I hope this helps.

It really depends on the terms and conditions for the company you have employed.if it states in their terms & conditions full payment required prior to delivery that is what they will expect, a lot of the shops now like b&Q expect full payment for anything ordered prior to ordering. You only have the company's guarantee the job will be carried out once payment is received, really you should have read their terms and conditions' prior to parting with any money's then you could have made an informed decision with all the facts a feel now your between the devil &the deep because I will bet their is a clause in their terms saying your 20% deposit is none refund able. but if they are a reputable company it is not in their best interest to take your money and run not everyone's a rogue. Good luck Alex

Ensure you use your credit card, if the company goes bust or if there is any redress, then you can call on your credit card company to refund your money. Endsure it is a credit card and not a bank debit card! Good luck
