Bathroom Fitting

What is the general process of getting a bathroom fitted and how much will it cost?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

1) I have a small bathroom which currently contains a toilet, pedestal sink and bath/shower. 2) This bathroom is very dated. 3) There is several layers of tiles on top of each other put there by the previous owners who were DIWhyer'. I think its 3 layers which we can see behind the sink but could be less. 4) Preference is wet wall over tiles due to cost and maintenance. I am specifically looking for advice on the process and cost of getting the bathroom completely stripped and a new toilet/sink & bath/shower put in. 1) Can the fitter do the stripping of old tiles or would that be better done by myself or a labourer? 2) How much leeway do we have with re-arranging the bathroom from its current layout? 3) How difficult is it to move pipes(waste, sink, etc) from where they currently are, which is tiled up behind the toilet which I think is a lot of wasted space. I have never done this before so if you can think of anything that I have missed please feel free to offer advice.

From your description. You want to take it all back to bare brick, start from scratch. Rearrange all your services to appliance desired position. Replace old floor boards with chip board panels, setting out services positions, cut apertures then fix boards to joists, I also put a thin layer of ply to floor for tiles. Baton out for ceiling 'level'. Walls are ready for boarding, get them plasterboards straight/level/flat and don't forget to pva bare brick/block. Now you have a shell to apply your finishes. Depending on size, labour usually costs 2500. The bathroom installer should do the rip out, not the client.
