Cupboard door removal

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.39 PM

Hello, I’ve just moved into a house and I suspect the water meter (the council has handily tarmacced over the one in the street) is behind a cupboard door. Problem is that the hinge is on an open side by the oven and the opening bit is right by the washing machine. The washing machine can’t be pulled out as it hits the oven. The oven is too big to move too. Is there a way I can crowbar open the door and fit something, preferably openable, back on the space? And is that the best way to solve this problem. Thanks in advance and if I can I’ll post a photo. Photo link https://photos.app.goo.gl/IzW2FR3w1ym3UdZq1

Its difficult to answer without seeing it . if you manage to open it. try not a crowbar as this will damage it . its probably cupboard hinges, there are various different hinges on the market to be used once open

Hi Henners. Late reply, but my solution (possible) would be to remove the handles from the oven and the knobs on the hob part. That may just give enough room to pull the washing machine out. If you can get the door off, find a supplier who supplied replacement kitchen doors, that one looks to be 715mm x 496mm and replace it with a 715mm x 396mm door, get a matching 715mm x 100mm matching panel and a pair of blind corner hinges and you can have a narrower door with a blanking panel where the washer is. Hinges would go on the panel, so the door would open from the cooker side. If you have problems sourcing the door and panel we can help, check our profile. The hardest part will be getting the door off without moving the washer. Kitchen hinges are particularly strong. If you source the door above first, it would be easier to cut the door off rather than cut the hinges. Hope this helps.
