Flooded my kitchen!
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.17 PM
Was running a hose pipe from the kitchen tap to outside and when I came back in had flooded my kitchen - was probably a couple of cm deep in water. I managed to dry it all up with towels pretty quickly but now when I walk over the laminate tile flooring I can hear water sloshing about underneath. I'm in a first floor flat with no one living below in a 1940s small block so I can't check if any damage underneath. Will it dry out of its own accord?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Your best bet, rip it all up and renew it after the floor has dried out. Once water gets in to the laminate it is like a sponge and will suck in the water and eventually blow.
I would also see if you can get access to the flat below, call the land lord and explain you have had a flood.

The water in such a situation gets everywhere, if water is dried out quickly it can stop the swelling and avoid ripping the floor up, try and get some air underneath the laminate, the best way is to go to the doorway and lift the doorplate if possible, then try to lift the laminate with a wedge to keep it raised and then try to get a warm air through underneath, don't leave the dryer on when your not there though and don't have such heater on too high a heat setting. This method may take time to work its way back under the floor from the doorway. But it could save you money!
