Will fixing the cause of penetrating damp stop it coming back
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.16 PM
Hi there I have had a lot of issues with penetrating damp in the top left hand side of my living room. It took me a long time to solve the issue but eventually realised that a clogged downspout was leading to water from the gutter being heavily splashed back onto that area of the external wall. I have no other problems with damp anywhere else in the house other than the area next to the downspout. Now it is fixed, the water does not run back onto the wall. Is it fine to assume that since this is no longer happening, the damp won't recur? Thanks, Michael

You have identified and fixed the issue of the clogged down spout, the wall will take some time to completely dry out and with regular inspection and maintenance ie cleaning out of the down spout the issue should not reoccur.
