Gas flue in way of installing kitchen window lintel

Hello We recently bought a house and the home buyers report told us there was no lintel above the kitchen window, the bricks are showing strain and one needs fitting. However, the boiler gas flue is just to the right of the window and a lintel would need to be placed above it. One builder told us this would be ok, and that we could fit a longer lintel a bit higher up. A second builder told us that we would have to at least reposition the gas flue or move the boiler completely before we can fit a lintel. He also told us it would cost £300 just to get a gas engineer out for advice. We are first time buyers so it's all new to us, and the surveyor didn't mention the flue and just said lintels were easy to fit. Any advice would really be appreciated!
