Can’t locate source low level humming throughout house

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

We are being disturbed by a low humming sound all over the house all the time. Turned off electricity at mains and switched off gas but can still hear it. Keeps us awake all night. Can’t identify where the sound is coming from but it’s vibrating everywhere, like a motor. Can anyone suggest how we can put an end to this? Tried to turn off water at mains by turning off stop cock outside but no luck there either. Thank you for the suggestion! Thank you Homecare for your help! We really appreciate it. We live in a semi. I'd have thought if the humming was coming from their house that they would be disturbed too and put a stop to it. It's a conversation I will need to have.

Locate your mains cold water stop cock in the pavement (out side your property boundary) make sure all taps/water outlets are closed, and if you have a water meter check to see if the dial is turning, if it is then you have a hidden water leak if you don't have a metered supply turn your own stop cock off in your property then observe if the noise stops. Update: Do you live in a semi-detached or terraced house, if so the noise could be coming from elsewhere or have you considered contacting a priest? The later was only a joke.
