Is there such a thing as a Damp Register? If so can a home owner view details?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.38 PM
I have had damp work done on my property and the contractor I hired told me that the work would be placed on some sort of damp register so that future home owners can see what work was done. Is this true or is it bs? Also exactly how useful is a 10 year company guarantee for damp work? Not worth the paper it is written on or good to have?

No. I think he has had you fooled. There is no register.
Reputable damp specialists can issue insurance policies that cover their guarantee.
A trader will give you a guarantee which is only worth anything while they are in business ( or if they feel like honouring it) to protect your guarantee, an insurance policy can be bought from the trader. This insurance kicks in if the damp treatment fails and the contractor has gone out of business. ( ie the insurance will pay for the work) This is usually a nominal figure of around £100 which covers the whole period of the guarantee) Beware of warranties that ask for annual payments. These sometimes work out more expensive than the work itself.
