How to check if a chimney flue liner has been replaced?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Hi, I'm having a gas engineer remove my gas fire to have a look at the chimney flue. Will he be able to tell the difference between a chimney flue liner that is 9 years old compared to one that would be (should be 2 years old). I can't get hold of original contractor who repaired my house to ask if he put me a new liner in (it was in a schedule of works for it to be replaced). The gas fire fitted is a flueless type, so would I be right in thinking, that a new liner (albeit 2 years old) should still be nice, new and shiny looking given that I have a flueless gas fire. Also, can I ask, when a new chimney liner is fitted, do they always fit a flue box to go with it? Thank you

hi if you have flueless fire then there is no chimney or flue liner is required and fire box is instead of the chimney, please get a Gas safe registered engineer to check. if someone installed flue liner then there should be certificate and hearth plate to say who installed it and when it was done
