Bad odour/Sewage lingering smell

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

We seem to have this very bad odour smell in the house. There is no obvious leaks. We already had two plumbers come by but had not been successful in determining what is causing the bad odour. Layout of the house - soon as you walk into the house you step into the living room. This is where the smell is lingering. On top of the living room is a bathroom. Note the bathroom is not leaking but has done in the past due to over flow. We have already checked the toilet for leakage apparently this has no leak either. So we have no idea what this horrible bad smell is coming from. Who should we hire and what do we need to fix this issue as we have been living with this smell for a year! (We bought this house over a year ago). Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome.

If your bathroom is above you may have an internal soil stack witch is boxed in maybe in the corner of your living room, you may have a seal that is gone on the soil pipe, you could have a burried manhole in your front room or even a blocked manhole (drain). Do you have a downstairs W/C that may have a Durgo Valve that the seal may have failed on that. They are the most obvious points I would look at 1st.

Any animal that is likely to pass under the floor of a cat, the fox rat smell will spread to the corpse. I advise you to check the potential places where there may be some hole and block it
