Damp Proofing

How do I get hold of my damp proof certificate

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

I had a tradesman from this site who did a damp proof course in my home and sprayed the subfloor of the dining room for woodworm. He completed most of the job but didn’t fit the skirting boards and asked me to employ a local joiner as his joiner was too busy and he would pay for the joiner. I employed the joiner and I have paid him . That was four weeks ago - I’m still waiting for the damp proof certificate and the money to pay the joiner ... he’s not answering my calls - but contacted me last week saying he’d had loads of personal problems - had split up with his wife and sleeping on his friends sofa. I’m sorry for him But it’s not my problem. I paid him in good faith and he didn’t complete the job and didn’t supply me with my damp proof certificate or woodworm certificate - do I contact trading standards ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hello I would keep getting on to the actual builder and the firm whos supply the fluids for the damp course and the woodworm. Also did you get an estimate? if so did it have an approval number this should be on the estimate its self from the people who supply the guarantee. In my eye s there's no excuse for him to not supply you with the guarantee. I supply all my jobs with a 30 year guarantee and I'm approved by PAM Ties Ltd. Thanks ACA

Unfortunately, there is not a lot you can do but badger him ( till he blocks your number). If he refuses to provide the guarantee the only route forward is to issue court proceedings. This costs approximately £100 I would suggest this is wasted money though as the guarantee is probably useless and not worth the paper its written on. I very much doubt the chemical companies will get involved. They don't govern the people that buy the goods from them. ( Approved status just means they are allowed to buy the chemicals, it is not a guarantee that the tradesmen can do the work correctly or are trustworthy) In future, always source a company that has some sort of redress. In the case of damp and woodworm treatments, its the Property Care Association. Then if you have a problem, you can complain to them who will act on your behalf. ( I assume Fensa, Gas Safe etc are the same)
