Fitting a phone socket to a new skirting board

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.36 PM

I recently had some new skirting boards fitted and the tradesman who Professed to be a joiner put the phone socket into the new skirting board! He actually cut out the shape of the phone socket from the new skirting board and put the socket in the skirting. When I said I wasn’t happy with him ruining the new skirting board he then said he would fix it. I expected him To put a new piece of skirting board along the wall but instead he fished the wooden piece he’d cut out of the board out of the bin and literally glued it back into the skirting board - I have pictures of this and I’m wondering if I should post them to expose this cowboy builder? He also cut right through the phone wire while doing this and said he hadn’t touched the phone socket - although it had seemingly jumped from the wall and was fitted inside the skirting board - it’s unbelievable... if I didn’t have the photographs nobody would ever believe it. He said he would pay for getting the phone reconnected but needless to say I ended up Paying £130 myself ...shall I post the pictures and expose his shoddy workmanship ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You can screw the phone socket to the skirting board but I wouldn't advise it as it can easily be knocked and broke. If the phone wire wasn't long enough to reach above the skirting board then you should have been advised.

Professionally & personally speaking, I would not have fitted the telephone socket to the skirting. I would of fitted above any skirting to minimise knocks OR recessed the back of the box into the wall to show less of the box & again to minimise knocks. Hope that helps.
