Plastering & Rendering

Whole downstairs renovation damaged by bad pladtering

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.15 PM

We have recently spent thousands on our home renovating it. We have always had issues with plasterers. I’ve hired three with all three failing to complete the work to an acceptable standard. Poor corners, terrible work around sockets and light switches and overall bad finish on walls. Over time the work has begun to get worse. We have cracks, some hairline others bigger beginning to appear on most walls and ceilings. We are at a loss as to what to do. We can’t afford to have everything redone but would patch plastering be enough? One of the walls has had radiator pipes embedded into them. Cracks have appeared along this wall which I suspect is due to the heat. I was told that there wouldn’t be any problems with this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Patch plastering can be a solution but if the previous plaster has been laid in a poor way or with a poor base it will crack again anyway. Has the plastering been done on bricks or on plasterboards? I prefer to install plasterboards and plaster on top of them rahter then re plastering a bricks wall. This because bricks walls can easily slide and move due the age and plaster needs a solid base to stick the best.

Unfortunately the only real cure to a problem like that would to be to start from scratch. Patch plastering would at best be a temporary resolution a good plaster finish relies a great deal on the preparation
