Take out wall in front of attic fire escape.
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.56 PM
i want to take out a wall on my staircase to the dormer. It isn't load baring and builders have said they can do it; but behind the wall is a fire escape skylight for the dormer. I was wondering can i still take out the wall without being in breech of the fire regulations.

Sounds like a fire break removing it will breach fire regs and endanger yourself, check with fire safety before removing it

Hi, yes, in agreement with the ADR and Vrs comments above, the wall is extending your Protected Corridor up to the loft room entrance door, if you remove that wall the loft room is essentially now part of the staircase which means if there is a fire the loft room will fill with smoke and any person in it won't be able to escape to a protected corridor. So this is an absolute no no.
