How to tell if a job is bodged

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

Hi, We recently had a fence installed (used someone recommended by someone else we use for fix-it jobs around the house). Anyhow, we suspect the fence is pretty bodged, for example the guy put posts lower than panels which really doesn't look right. Getting him tofinish it so it looks reasonably ok has been like getting blood out of a stone. After seeing the end result we suspect this guy really didn't know what he was doing. How can we tell for sure if this job is bodged, is there anything else we should be looking out for? We are now thinking to just get the fence taken down and reinstalled by someone else. Advice please.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It’s horses for courses. Looks like you backed the wrong horse. Entirely up to you if you want to leave it or get it re done. Was price a consideration by any chance?

Normally the the fence post sit proud of the panels by about 20-30 Mil. If the fence line is ment to be running in a straight line run a string line along it off of the two end posts to see how fair out of line it is.

If the post are sturdy enough you may be able to just swap the panels out for shorter ones. If your unsure get in touch with a local company and ask them to come and take a look.

If the line is decent and the posts are straight i would agree with a previous answer, get the panels trimmed or replaced to match the height of posts unless of course they are all very different

People often make a mistake of getting a builder or a handyman to do a fence. They probably put a fence up once a year if they are lucky so they won't have the experience a fencer has. U wouldn't get a carpet fitter to build your house.
