Bricklaying & Repointing

Removed a door and brickwork but what's the best way to remove the toothing?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

I have removed a door, frame and small amount of brick work to open out what was a small toilet but I don't know how to tidy back the bricks to have a straight wall for plastering. Should I chisel out the full bricks and mortar in half ones or try to break all the full ones to halves? Edit: I have taken out the half bricks and what is left are the full ones hanging out at 90 degrees to the wall. It's these I have a problem with. Do I try to remove out fully or try to break them with a chisel they are solid engineering bricks but on the opposite side it appears the have been chipped out. Obviously the more I bash at the wall the more disturbance I am causing to the structure

You need to take the half bricks out, use a sds hammer drill and drill the mortar out 8mm drill bit make holes as close together as you can go in diagonally as well till the brick simply pulls if you use a bolster or chisel you more than likely chip the bricks you want to leave in👍 Apologies I must have miss read I thought you were toothing out to brick up the door way, to make it flush ideally you want to cut the bricks with a stihl saw or 9inch grinder very messy if your inside. or again drill the bricks to weeken them and they should break fairly easy
