Bricklaying & Repointing

Gap between window frame and wall

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.15 PM

Hi I am looking to insert lintels on top of windows..but where the lintel should go, there is a gap around 5cm between the window frame and lintel. Now this gap is filled with mortar. Cannot have a bigger window to fill the gap as the inside brick fit with the size of the window. Now the only way to bring the lintel down is to fit them on top of half cut brick..is that okay or shall I have the gap and fill with something.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, If I’m understanding your explanation correctly you can fill this gap with expanding foam and then use plastic trim/architrave (if the window is UPVC) cut to the length of the window-fix this to the window frame to cover the gap between the window and lintel.
