UPVC Door; lift external handle but wont engage multi point locking system and key wont turn.

Leaving home pushed the external lever up, heard a snap and the multi point locking system did not engage and extend out. Pushed the handle back down tried the key to reopen the door, key wont turn either way. The internal lever system engages and works as normal and locks from the inside. Replaced with a new and same handle set, same problem. On removal the spindle appears ok levers engaging. Appreciate any feedback and a point in the right direction, many thanks and Rgds.

Probably needs a new mechanism. Upvc doors specialist.

Sounds like the gearbox. You can change the gearbox without changing the whole mech which will be cheaper for you
