Best way to insulate apartment in a high rise building?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

Hi, what would be the best way to insulate an apartment in a high rise? Originally (built in the 1960s) external wall was brickwork but they put cladding on top of it in the 1980s. Internal walls are plasterboard. So I have 3 layers: cladding, brickwork then plaster. Brickwork is probably in a very sorry state, I saw a glimpse of it while renovating the kitchen, there may be holes all the way through. I think there is a cavity between bricks and plasterboard. Would filling the cavity between bricks and plaster work? Should I tear down plaster walls, fix insulation boards to the brick walk then rebuild plasterboard walls? Would covering plasterboard with graphene wallpaper on the inside work? Thank you, I guess one would need to see it to decide but any tips would be welcome!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Air is a good insulator when it is not moving and trapped like in a cavity wall, but not if area is ventilated. It depends how much effort and expense you want to go to. For full insulation, and If the brickwork is bad, ideally remove plasterboard, repair brick, then install high performance insulation, and finish with insulated plasterboard. For quicker solution, go over existing with a layer of insulated plasterboard. If you don't want to loose any room from internal space by adding extra plasterboard, try an insulated wallpaper or liner such as wallrock
