Sealing up vents that were added for gas fires?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

1900 Victorian Semi which had two gas fires installed in 2000 which have now been removed. In its place, one room now has a 5kw multi-fuel stove, the other an ornamental vented fireplace opening. Both rooms have vents in the corner that go into the cavity (but not through the external wall). They are roughly the size of one brick, but no air brick is present, its just a hole you can get your fist through. There are multiple airbricks below the suspended floor which are clear and the air is circulating. Lots of cold air coming through the two gas vents, even with a hit and miss cover over them. Can they be blocked up as the gas fires are no longer there? Will this cause issues with Damp as I suspect there were no vents prior to the gas fires? Thanks!

Two types of air brick requirements Greg, one for air ventilation of said suspended floor. one for air combustion (free air) for any combustable heating /material.
