Painting before or after electrics
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.35 PM
Electrics final fix (sockets, light switches, pendants and spotlights) or painting first? If Electrician has not cut holes out for the spotlights yet? But he has drawn a map of where they will go etc. Would I still paint the ceiling before spots go in?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No I would paint all ceilings and walls first than let eletician fit all spots and plugs than cover or masking tape all, and do final finish

Painting first and after the final fixing. As all the electric second fix materials are going to stay clean and getting nicer finish.

Finish painting ceiling before spot lights go in. Paint all wall and leave one finish coat until all switches are on. You may want to use masking tape just to protect the switches from roller spits.

In my experience painting was always done after electrical second fix ,that means the application of all face plates. But I know this depends on three things.
1.How well the electrical boxes are filled,no gaps around.
2.How well are your plasters.
3.How skilled are the painters.
Finally I would never use masking tape.

I would personally prefer to paint after the spot lights have been fitted. If you allow an electrician to work on a finished ceiling It will get wrecked by dirty hands etc.
simply pull the spots down slightly (watching your fingers) then cut round with a brush and feather with a mini roller.
As far as sockets and switches get them fitted prior to top coat loosen them off and mask them off until finished no mess.
