Plaster cracked and hollow over removed chimney

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

I had my whole house plastered and we have realised there are major cracks where the old chimney used to be in three rooms, but the cracks are so bad when you knock on the wall it is completely hollow sounding, the plasterer used sand and cement with mesh then skimmed over the top of that we have been told it maybe due to the fact he didn't use PVA as we took the plaster off the whole wall plaster just fell off with it with no effort, what can I do to fix this as the plasterer keeps saying the wall wasn't prepped under the chimney by me when I would think that would be the job of the plasterer, what can I do to fix this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi my name is Kieran from k&D plastering. in regards to the plaster sounding hollow yes you are rite it hasn’t bonded to the bonding or sand/cement. It can be easily fixed just remove the affected areas then re bond the wall the skim it again and blend it into the existing plaster. We hope this was useful for. if you are in the north west area we can help. Kind regards k&D plastering
