curtain/wooden blind hanging.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.15 PM

Good Morning We are moving into a new house , timber framed / plaster board interior walls. What Is the best method to hang curtains/wooden blinds. The curtains will be hung inside / outside window recess. Unfortunately I wife wishes to chose quite heavy window coverings. Many Thanks Philip

Hi. My preference when fitting curtain rails etc on dry-lined walls etc is to first fit a baton. 2 or 3 inch by 3/4 to 1 inch planed softwood. Good quality plasterboard fixings and screws can be used to gain a very sturdy fixture that the rails can then be easily fitted to. The baton can be painted to match the walls.

Timothy is right, this would be the preferred option. Inside the window return you should be able to get a reasonable fixing directly into the timber frame. It's possible to mount the curtain pole directly to the supporting timbers if you can find them. Most poles will have some flexibility in the position of the fixings, so you'd need to check first. Blinds, inside the returns. Should be an easier fix. Richard
