What do I need to check to ensure my builder is not taking short cuts?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.35 PM
Hi guys, I am worried about plumbing as we just discovered that the tradesmen employed by our builder took shortcuts on the rewiring of the house. Could you give me good advice on how to detect shortcuts on plumbing? What do I need to check, what question shall I ask etc thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I've heard it all the time contractors coming in with prices and availability for workmanship time starts/quality, truth is unless you have been told honestly upfront of who will be doing the said jobs then anything could be subcontracted out to an inferior tradesman.
I know Its a harsh reality but some builders cannot supply all trades at your convenience.
If it was myself I would plan ahead and pick quality with feedback or references of said trade needed.
You may have to wait for individual timescales but better to be happy than have to come on this site.

first of all check that your plumber is a plumber?,unfortunately any one can call themselves a plumber, ask how long has he been a plumber ?,does he have any qualifications and ask to see them,if he is a fully qualified he should have an nvq 3 in plumbing or advanced craft plumbers work for older plumbers, also just because he is gas safe, has wras certificate or g3 unvented does not make him a plumber, ask him to explain what he is doing and why,go on the internet and check what your installation should look like, and you will have to speak to him or her to check on what they are doing, should things go wrong contact the chartred institute of plumbing and heating engineers they can put you in touch with a registerd plumber who will know what is right or wrong, above all make shore he has insurance.

Couldn’t agree more with D&R. If work is underway or completed. Get him to pressure test what he’s done.
