How to get white gloss off outside brickwork

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hello, for years we've used the same painter and decorator. The last time we used him he was nearing retirement and his son was helping him. Unfortunately the brickwork on the outside of the house where the windows were painted (by his son) are also splashed with paint and in the corners the bricks are almost painted. This was an expensive job to have done and we didn't like to say anything as we've used the same decorator and got to know him well over the years. The job his son did is a 'bit of a mess' because of the brickwork. We tried to get it off with turps, cleaning stuff etc but it's difficult because its bricks rather than a hard surface. We had hoped it would 'wear off', but it hasn't. Does anyone know a good way to get the gloss from the bricks. Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions. Pip

Apply a light coat of Paint stripper and wipe with rag, if not try a industrial brick cleaner with a wire brush.

Personally I would use industrial strength brick cleaner/acid and a wire brush. Gently go over the brick with the brush because you don’t want to take the colour off the face of the brick once the acid is on. Should work perfectly and remove the paint without damaging the brick face.

Hi, I would get some brick acid and a wire brush wire, don’t be too rough with the brush as you don’t want to damage the face of the brick, but that should do the trick for you.
