Screw keeps spinning and wont tighten

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

I have installed a chain lock to my door and secured the bass to a wall in the porch. I drilled 2 holes for each screw. I put a wall plug in both and screwed the screw in the plug. For some reason, one of the screws is ok and tightens all the way in. The other one appears like it solidly in (as holding the fixing to the wall) BUT it keeps spinning when you continue to screw it. Unlike the other screw, it doesn’t get to a point where it stops from being tightened. If i keep turning the screw head, it will just keep going around and around, as if it was loose.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Chas there are two simple options. Firstly find a screw which is longer and or is thicker and try this. Secondly remove the plug and replace with a new one and try this. Last and final old trick is to use a couple of cocktails sticks or matches and insert these and screw into the to hole. hope theses of help

Holes not drilled deep enough For the length of screw Put a mark on drill.use tape. Drill just past screw length to allow for counter sunk heads Hope this rectify your problem.

I had the same problem. Pull out the metal insert, pack the plug with a wooden dowel or similal (cut to correct length), put metal insert back in and you're good to go.
