Do hot water cylinders really benefit from having a cover/jacket?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.14 PM

i have a hot water cylinder which is my only form of hot water as my property is all electric. It has a jacket/cover which is quite badly damaged. i wondered if it would be ok to just take it off or whether i should replace it with another?

Hi Sarah. You should definitely replace it with a new one. Without insulation your cylinder is effectively a huge radiator, dispersing the heat from within and using electricity to keep reheating it. Insulation will contain that heat, saving you money all day long.
