Bruised hardwood floors - what to do to recover?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hi all, A while ago I had some wooden floors installed - B&Q Colours oak real wood top layer. Unfortunately whilst I was having some kitchen work done, the fitters dragged a fridge freezer along the floors. The result isn't a scratch, but a couple of long marks that are visible in some lights. It looks like the fridge freezer might have removed some of the glaze of the wood, or left a bruise mark. I've tried beeswax furniture polish and applying steam but this doesn't seem to have made a big difference. Is there anything else that I could try to remove the bruising? Many thanks in advance!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you had solid natural wood flooring then the "old wive's" tale of filling indent with water, putting a tea towel over and then steam ironing the dent out does work amazingly well. However sounds like you have a man made over veneered board in which case replacement is most likely your best bet as frustrating as it sounds. Unfortunately I had exactly same issue with kitchen fitter and fridge freezer on a job many years ago and only option was to replace flooring in damaged area. Regards David

you'll need to sand and refinish it, also never ever use steam on wood it raises the moisture content too high too quickly and can ruin your floor.
