How to paint white staircase trim handrail which are currently painted black?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.34 PM
Hi, We are planning to make a staircase makeover and we would like to change the color of wooden staircase side trim and handrail from black to white. Is it possible to do it without sanding? Could you please give as an advice how can we do that and which product to use? Thanks in advance.

there is a pasta called Paint stripper.
use the paint brush and spread it everywhere and after with a scrapper remove all the black paint.
after a light sand by hand with sand paper 120-150 grade and is ready to be re-coated.
good luck!!!

Hi.
I understand you not wanting to sand black painted trim.
You can however prime it first without sanding using a 'super grip' primer.
Dulux crown etc have versions of this.
I prefer to use the zinnser range of primers. If you google 'zinnser guide to preperation' you will find their products applicable to your job.
One thing i would suggest though is that you ensure all surfaces are thoroughly clean first. E.g a good wash down with sugar soap followed by clean water and allowed to dry.
