remove soil off back of fench

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

Do I have the right to ask my neighbour to remove soil from back of my fencing? It’s not 12mths old yet she didn’t pay towards it. And already there’s dampness soaking into it from bottom.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, the answer to your question is no unfortunately. You don’t have the ‘right’ to ask her to move the soil. The fence should have been put in with a gravel board so the wood was free of the soil. Most people are reasonable though and if you offer to do it without causing any problems to her border, you might solve the problem. Good luck!

If your neighbour is a considerate friendly sort then if they are made aware of your concerns in a pleasant way it should be easily sorted, but its wise to tread carefully as a small issue such as this could lead to something terrible it depends on character

No she not responsible for this problem the fence should of been installed with concrete gravel boards so that no soil could go against your fence and cause it to rot...

depending on where your boundary is if you have put your fence bang on your boundary then no as you cant expect a gap that can cause danger i.e. a small gap behind the fence were a foot could go down and become stuck but if you work out your boundary and your fence is more on your property rather than bang on the boundary then you can remove the soil your self or like you say tell them to remove it as its causing damage you cant always install gravel boards hope you solve your issue we had this exact same problem with a customers awkward neighbour they wanted to fill behind it but wasn't aloud as it was more on my customers property
