removing a door frame
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.17 PM
One of the door frames in my house is in absolute terrible condition, I don't have a door on it as its basically just a walk through from the dining room to kitchen but its not very pleasing to look at and will take ages to fill/make good. I think the best course of action would be to have the frame removed but I suspect its easier said than done? as its not used to hang a door is it possible to make it good by perhaps skimming the area or would I be better off just putting another frame in??? either way? who would be the best trade to approach for the job???
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, for the best possible finish you should contact a plasterer to remove the old frame, place corner beads where necessary and skim the opening. This is a very straightforward job for a skilled tradesman and won't cost much more than fitting a new frame. It might even be cheaper.
Filling and sanding the old frame would be a good DIY option and probably not as time consuming as you think, but if you have no use for the frame, might as well have it removed and skimmed for a nice clean finish.

hello you could always think about just getting some plane wood and have the old frame out and finish it of with architrave on both sides.
a joiner or good handy man could take care of that for you
