Roofing

Bad smell inside room after mortar was cut with angle grinder.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

Hi everyone, Im currently having a fiberglass roof installed at the back of my house and I have been noticing an awful smell in my room ( like bricks or concrete) ever since the mortar between the bricks outside had to be cut with an angle grinder to fit GRP edge trims. The gap ( a straight line) between the bricks ( below the window) was left uncovered as we are waiting for the edge trims to arrive. I thought maybe the vibration of the angle grinder could have moved the bricks inside the room just below the wooden floor and the smell may have travelled through the floor boards as they have long gaps between them?? I left the window open for 3 days and nothing has changed.......any idea why??? I appreciate for any suggestions Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there the angle grinder shouldn't have moved any bricks on the inside for sure as most standard angle grinders barely cut through a 100mm so that shouldn't be the problem. It may just be where the blade got hot as it was cutting which can leave an eggy smell if that makes sense, however not for long! so check for any pipes or soil stack pipes or even gas pipes that might be near to where you were working?
