Damp Proofing

Is there anything I can do to block or stop black mould?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.14 PM

I rent a flat that has black mould growing on every outside wall ( which are all very damp)My landlord refuses to sort it out so I’m desperate to find some kind of product? Maybe? Or a way of stopping it coming back thru, even if it’s something that’s temporary that I have to keep re applying every few weeks! Just anything I can try, I have 3 little ones and they are all constantly ill with chest related illnesses but I’m not in a position where I can move out so for the time being we are stuck here with all the mould so I desperately need to find a way to make this better Thankyou for your time Samantha

heat &ventilation will help ,you can wipe the areas effected with either an anti fungal or bleach solution to remove the mould but this will need tobe treated continually until the cause is repaired, I hear you when you say you need the flat for you and your kids, but your landlord apart from breaking the law is in my opion just a greedy heartless b------ who should be forced to live in the property himself. You can go to the council & environmental health to & force him to make repairs but they can condem the property leaving you homless if he doesnt want to get the place repaired. Good luck Alex

You need to up ventilation as much as possible, don't dry clothes in the house, make sure extractors are working and used in kitchen and bathroom. Then you can wash walls killing mould by using white vinegar or fungicidal wash a few times. Also by waterproofing outside walls will make them slightly warmer reducing cold spots on walls. I would recommend installing vents through walls in areas of mould to allow air flow as fresh are neutralises damp humid air. If extractors aren't there or don't work then it is down to your landlord to fix as it's regulation. You can also read up more about it from our suppliers they have a lot of data sheets explaining causes etc www.safeguardeurope.com

Wall Rock thermal lining paper to all external walls, this will insulate the walls and prevent cold bridging and keep the room warm.
