Hi there, We have a half built house/self build that we have scaffolded ourselves. My husband bought a book on scaffolding and followed as close as possible the 'rules' in the book. Some of the scaffolding is nothing like a professional company would have erected I am sure but in general I would say we have put in more poles than less to compensate for this. My question is this. We are now planning to get a brickie/builder to build the masonry of the second storey and probably put the roof on too as for various reasons, we are not going to be able to do this ourselves as planned. What are the implications for us legally please? We have been so long at this self build that we can no longer get site insurance. We are told that it is because the build has taken so long they automatically assume there is a problem when in fact the build has been a hobby rather than a full on project. Is it as simple as getting the builder to sign a disclaimer and telling him in writing that he is welcome to check it and add and subtract from it at will if he is not happy with it? I have only had one builder look at this job so far and he seemed happy to work off what we have here but I am concerned.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
