boiler losing pressure - hot water and heating fine but worrying me!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.14 PM

Hi all. Really could do with some sound advice here. I have a Worcester Si2 combi boiler that seems to lose pressure! I have bled all rads and then topped pressure up, this seems to be ok for a few days, although normally pressure is zero in the morning? I then simply put the heating on and pressure is back to 1.5 - 2. Worcester service the boiler each year and say it is perfect (it is covered by them and over the years have changed most parts so the boiler is almost new lol) - my issue is, I have called some plumbers and they seem to say... could be lots of things... probably a leak but difficult to tell really? Whilst I am not massively concerned as cant see any obvious damp and have hot water and heating.. I don't want it getting worse AND sometimes the boiler or pipes seem a bit noisy, as if theyre working overtime! Not sure if it helps but I have noticed a green/white build up on a pipe when I look under the boiler?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

there will be a drip outside by the 15mm prv relief valve. The good news is its not leaking upstiars. Now if you have suspended wooden floor it might be there. This can be determined either by checking visually or i would be inclinded to isolate the boiler drain down and ask a plumber to connect a compressor and take the system upto 3 bar, you should be able to hear the leak or ifts push fit it will fail either way you find the leak. If not it could be the pressure vessel needs recharging. This would be my first port of call. When hot water expands ie your heating coming on it needs to go somewhere this is what the pressure vessel is for. this can be either recharged by means of a foot pump or if its failed a new external one can be fitted.

In my opinion i think the expansion vessels are damaged in the boiler, the pipe is giving off a noise after supplementing the pressure means that the water is escaping through the pressure relief valve. This is only my suggestion and can only be checked on the spot
