the cold feed for a power shower

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

when you fit a power shower ( hot and cold feed ), not a electric shower with just a cold feed, are you meant to have a direct feed from the header tank in the loft directly to the unit , or can you tee off the rising main, different people say different things. many thanks N

Hi, If you having a power shower fitted with a pump then this wold usually be connected to a tank. It is generally not recommended to pump the mains supply directly. The instructions with the shower should tell you what type of supply it expects (mains or tank). A standard mixer shower is usually connected to the mains on the cold water supply, when run off a combi boiler the hot water pressure is not far off mains, as the boiler will be fed by mains pressure. If a standard shower pump is fitted to supply the mixer shower then this is normally connected to a storage tank to ensure a continuous flow of water, to prevent damage to the pump as the mains flow rate may not be suitable and cause the pump to run dry and possibly burn out. To find the best solution your mains pressure and flow rate would need to be assessed along with your hot water set-up (combi boiler, hot water storage tank), which would allow a suitable shower to be selected. Hope This Helps Muzzy Homes

Off the main feed as a gravity fed tank won't supply the pressure required and you might struggle with maintaining a certain temperature. Hope this helps

Hi Neil Best practice. Cold water. New dedicated supply from cold water storage tank. Supply outlet must be below the outlet that feeds the hot water cylinder. This is to ensure scolding in the shower can't occur. Should a problem arise with the cold water storage tank not refilling then the water to the hot water cylinder will run out before the cold water to the shower. Hot water. Some hot water cylinders have a dedicated hot water outlet on the upper side of the cylinder, sometimes labelled as secondary return. Use this. An alternative is to use various flanges that can be fitted to the cylinder to give a dedicated supply. Surrey, Warwick, Essex. If this is not possible then "T" off of the hot water draw off pipe at a level below the top of the cylinder. Regards Roy
