Ask a questionBathroom Fitting
Size of bath. Can it fit?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.37 PM
We're are looking into getting a new bathroom fitted and the bath we want is 1700mm long. Measuring the space where the existing bath is, with an electric tape measure, the length is 1667mm. Does this completely rule out the bath we want or would it still be possible to fit it?

that wouldn't fit, you can get 1660 - 1670 baths, the only way a 1700 would fit is if you were to inset it into the wall by chiselling out but can make installation awkward

Hi, yes you can still fit the bath which is only 3.7cm bigger from your old one by going into the walls from both sides 1.7cm. It wont ruin the look of your bathroom it will be more stable and 1.7cm in the wall won't do any harm. But you will need somebody to do it for you maybe. ;)

Common issue, as the difference is rather tiny just chisel a channel in the wall for the top of the bath to slide in on both sides but first double check the measurements with a good old trustworthy tape measure.

Hi. Yes very possible to fit in without a problem :) . I have experienced many bathrooms with this situation with spaces even smaller than what you have. You just need to Chisel into the wall slightly to gain that extra space to fit.
Advice: make sure the side where taps will go does not collide with the taps even after tiling is done. Best to Chisel out opposite side of the bath.
Hope this helps. :)

Is the measurement you have taken between existing tiles in the wall around the existing bath??
If so then you may find your existing bath is already 1700mm and you can swap easily.
If not then as others have mentioned you should be able to chip some of the wall away at either end and fit that way.
