Location of unvented hot water cylinder

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

I have been advised by one plumber that the unvented hot water cylinder that I want(in a 2-storey, 3-bed, reasonable sized old terrace house) should be as close to the boiler(which is on the ground floor at one end of house) as possible whereas another plumber has said it should be as close to the bathroom as possible(upstairs in the middle of the house). Which is right?

Hi There, The plumber who has said the hot water tank should be closer to the bathroom is more correct. The reason being that the hot water will reach the outlet quicker as the hot water is stored nearby. However both options should be ok dependant on the characteristics of the building. There is an option to install a secondary return on the hot water which would circulate the hot water at certain times so when you open a tap nearby then the hot water will be there ready. I hope that make sense and helps! Many thanks Jon Pipe&Cable
