It is common to change from an electric heating system to an oil fired heating system. Not only will the running costs be cheaper, the user will be able to have the heating on when it is needed (on demand or timed), not with the restricted times which economy 7 operate to. However, the costs of the installation, boiler, radiators and oil tank can be restrictive. Depending on the proposed oil tank location you may also need planning permission and/or building control consent. Given the choice, I would always advise oil heating over electric. My advice would be to ask a qualified contractor to estimate the costs. This way, you can decide if this work will be within your budget.
