Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

Hi , My WC(under the stairs) and Bathroom have a strange lingering smell. Both the toilets are cleaned regularly and the bathroom is ventilated(extractor fan). I am not sure what the issue is. Please advise Thanks Pavan

Hi Pavan The only thing I can think of is that you have an unvisible leak or had a leak recently which has soaked the floor and everything underneath your toilet and or bathroom causing the strange smell. As you mentioned the toilet is undeneath the stairs I guess both are downstairs. As it's usually concreted floor downtairs, the water can't soak straigh down is sitting and travelling on the concrete and you possibly have wooden or carpet floor with underlay. The soaked underlay smells really badly. Even if the bathroom is upstairs the same problem could occour. I'd have a proper look around the toilet and the bathroom to see where a leak could be, also check the seals around. Lift some carpets up too if possible. Regards Bela

All depending on what kind of smell it is you can smell. It could be a number of things from drainage trouble, damp issues or a simple leak. If your sink waste runs into a storm drain a build up of leaves resulting in stagnant water smell backing up through the plug holes. When the bathroom was installed waste pipe flow systems may of been fitted incorectly the list could be endless. It would simply be a case of process of elimaination.
