How to fit wall units with a bulkhead in place?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
Hi there, We're mid renovation of our kitchen and decided to build a bulkhead above the wall units (to make it look like they are built into the wall) - we're wondering if anyone has done similar and how they fit the wall units onto the wall? Our kitchen units have the typical 'hook on' system but we can't lift the units into place due to the bulkhead (all finishing flush) We could always put the units in place first but queried the quality of finish of the bulkhead (we want to skim it in with the ceilings etc) Thanks in advance for any advice anyone has!!

Attach battens to the wall first, ignore the metal clips and hooks, and screw the units to the battens.

Since you have the "bulkhead" in place you can do as the other reply says and fit the cabinets directly with screws to battens, provided the backs of the units are strong enough.
We tend to fit the units first and then build the frame afterwards. Either way will work fine and will look exactly the same. The quality of finish of the bulkhead is less to do with how it is fixed than how it is finished.
