Laying laminate floor in a cold conservatory

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.14 PM

Hello, I recently moved into a house and want to lay new laminate flooring in the conservatory. It has no heating so is pretty baltic at the moment, is it bad practice to lay laminate in a room that is freezing cold? The new flooring is in there now so will be acclimatised to the temperature, I'm just worried about expansion etc. in the summer. Thanks for any responses! Cheers for the response Dean, this is what I currently have, is it good enough? https://www.diy.com/departments/diall-5mm-laminate-solid-wood-flooring-xps-foam-underlay-5m/1570772_BQ.prd

As well as good underlay you need to make sure the floor can expand and contract so the laminate flooring should not be fitted tight to the edges. Unheated conservatories have a wide variation on temperatures during the different seasons. This also means high variations in humidity and levels of condensation. As a conservatory is a relatively small room a 5mm to 10mm gap around the edges covered by a skirting of bead will be sufficient.
