Creaking roof and whistle noise

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

Hi We bought our 1960s house in July 2016 and have noticed very loud creaking noises and wind whistle noises in high speed winds. We have tried to go into the loft to determine where this is coming from but as we have no idea on this type of trade we are left stumped. Can anyone recommend any suggestions as to what we could do to solve this the noise is very loud and often keeps us up at night. Thanks in advance

As mention above, Oscell has mentioned checking the ariels etc. If you do have a chimney do you have cowls and do they have mushroom/caps on as sometimes the wind blows down them and causes whistling noises. I recently have done this for a customer and it solved the problem. If it's not that it could be gaps in the fascia and the winds getting caught up between and creating sound.

Without viewing the property its pretty difficult to determine the problem, it could be a number of things, firsty if the property has one I would check the chimney, any cowls or ariels could be causing the whistle, in regards to the creaking it suggests that there is movement, high winds could be entering the roof space from areas such as the ridge tiles or the verge. Hope this helps.
