Can I reduce the width of dining room chimney breast?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.14 PM
I live in a Victorian end of terrace house, with recently swept but not currently active chimneys on the external walls. The alcove to the right of my dining room chimney breast is 40mm too narrow to fit my piano which I ideally want to position there. Can I reduce the width of the chimney by 40 mm? I intend to replace the existing gas fireplace for another model so can re-centre the fire then. If this is possible is it a big and therefore expensive job?

That would be possible if not more then 40mm in total but it will be dusty work.
Cost: The main concern is how much work will be needed to make good on the skirting boards and floor around the chimney breast.
Tough call.
All the best
