Why is my water never very hot?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

We have a combi boiler. The water in the house is usually not very hot. Occasionally we get very hot water in the kitchen. The water in the shower and bath is the coldest of all. The boiler has been checked and is fine (heating to c.55 degrees). Why could this be? It is a mixer shower and I had the gasket(?) replaced last year.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, the best way to get a hot bath from your combi boiler is to run the hot tap for a short time before putting the plug in and then and then let the hot tap run but not fully open.... this will take longer to fill your bath but it will give the boiler more time to heat the water and will result in a nice hot steamy bath. If the shower runs off the boiler and is a thermostatic bar, the temperature can be adjusted in the temperature control end. Any good plumber could sort that for you in a matter of moments or if competent you could have a go yourself "many video clips on youtube to assist you". The only other solution is to get a more powerful boiler fitted which can produce heat much quicker.

I would disagree purely based on information received that 'the boiler is fine'! Seek a second opinion. Difficult to troubleshoot but I would suggest the first port of call would be your plate heat exchanger (this item provides you with hot water)
