Agree with the other 2 awnsers re:dot and dab. I had to remedy some cracks once on internal walls, in a property that was about 10 years old. The owner told me ( self-built) that he had made the mistake of having his thermalite walls rendered and plastered. Apparently the blocks can split, this then cracks the render. They wern't hairline cracks either

Hi yes render thermolite blocks but you have to make sure the render is weaker than the block itself after which the render can then be skimmed. as for dot and dab yes as it is a lot faster than traditional plaster work. Hope this helped. Regards. David

Dot dab is the best way to go about going over thermolite blocks if you apply sand cement,bonding,or hard wall Then multi finish plaster IT WILL CRACK.

You are much better off dot and dabbing your blocks it will save you a lot of time and money also it will be a nice level finish

I would recommend use hard wall and then scrim over witch would give you a nice hard back ground to hang units if its a kitchen wall
