Running a TV power cable through plasterboard wall??

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

I've just mounted my TV to the wall and I plan on running the cables through the wall to keep them out of site, this includes the power/plug cable. Is it safe to do this? I will run the power cable vertical and bring it out of the wall behind a cabinet so that it can be plugged in to a socket. The wall is studded plasterboard with insulation in between. Thanks

Hi Luke, this is safe to do providing your power cable is protected by a 30mAmp RCD. Also make sure if using HDMI, Sat and Data cables within the same wall do no run with them with the power cables or feed through the same holes as you will get electrical interference from the eddy currents present on the outside of power cable. Electrical separation from Low voltage power cables and Extra low power cables is always required.
