broken joints of wardrobe

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.14 PM

Hello, Last year we have fitted ourselves two wardrobes that were ordered online. but the wardrobe doors doesn't fit properly, the joints and the clamps come out every time we open the wardrobe. the chest drawers are also very delicate. please can you advise what to do. OR can someone take the existing wardrobe and build a new one for us that fits our needs with racks and shelves just like bensons does. thank you

Not knowing where you are it is hard to offer my help beyond saying that it is quite an easy job to sort out. Where the joints have come loose you can use glue and screws to redo the joints. If I were to do the job I would use an adhesive called, 'Sticks Like Sh*t', no, seriously it is called that and you can get it on eBay or from B&Q, and I prefer to use 'Turbo Gold' or 'Turbo Silver' screws which are sharp and can be screwed in much more easily than many other screws. Neither product is particularly cheap, but that is because they are very good! If you EVER think that you want to dismantle the furniture, don't use that adhesive! I set a gate post with it against a wall seven years ago and it is still solid, even with a pair of very large dogs bouncing on it all day long!

Hi I am sorry to hear that after challenging yourself to find a cheaper furniture option and also after managing to fit it together the end result is giving you trouble. I have seen this experience often and As a cabinet maker I can tell you that most of the flat pack furniture available to private customer are not of the best quality. It all depends on what you’re going to fill up your desired wardrobe with. If it is just for a standard amount of clothing they might be good for years but if you have a lot and heavy stuff the will usually last a short time. A private cabinet maker could produce a good and strong wardrobe with a cheaper cost than big furniture companies and would also have more interest in delivering a bespoke long lasting product to secure and keep his customer. Hope this helps. Regards Giovanni
